SM Group to supply Bomb disposal equipments
12th December, 2008: S M Group received a large order for supply of Bomb disposal equipment from Indian Paramilitary Forces. These are to be delivered in early 2009 and will be deployed throughout India at key installations, railway stations etc. This orders come in line with the company's vision to develop and deliver technologies and products for protecting innocent lives and countering terrorism.

SM Group receives key Bullet Proof Jacket orders
1st November, 2008: S M Group received three key Bullet Proof Jacket orders from Indian Paramilitary and Indian Police Forces. These are to be delivered in early 2009 to various divisions of the forces engaged in active counter-insurgency operations in the North East of India.

The orders were placed by Security forces against tender enquiries after extensive trial and evaluation in competition with major armour companies. These are the largest of all orders decided by Indian Security forces in 2008.

SM Group develops 105mm and 130mm artillery ammunition Modular Charge Concept
15th October, 2008: S M Group achieved yet another milestone when it successfully developed and delivered the Modular cartridge cases for the 105mm and 130 mm artillery guns. The fully combustible cases have been developed using the most advanced resin-based technology and will replace the metal case concept currently in use. It marks another successful project completion of in-house R&D in collaboration with HEMRL, a DRDO lab.

S M Group has already been supplying the 120mm and 125mm combustible cartridge cases to the Indian Army on large scale since 1994 and had developed the resin technology based products in the year 2005. Last year, SM Group had successfully completed the development of MCC for 155mm Artillery gun ammunition (BOFORS). With the completion of this phase, SM Group now has five different calibres in its product portfolio.

The unique production technology developed in-house allows the cases to be manufacture without ribs. This unique feature has been appreciated by many International defence companies.

EUROSATORY 2008
Eurosatory 2008, The Premier International “Land - Aircraft-Homeland” Defence Exhibition is being held this year in the French Capital of Paris from 16th June to 20th June 2008. Being organised under Ministry of Defence, Government of France. Eurosatory 2008 is likely to be the largest gathering of experts in Systems/ Equipment, Services and Modern Technologies in the Defence Sector. The exhibition will, therefore, showcase the most modern and state-of-the-art developments and trends.

In this very prestigious event, the SM Group will be showcasing its star products like combustible cartridge cases for tank and artillery munitions, very innovative and exciting solutions for personal/aircraft/vehicle armor as well as well-proven software solutions for the Battlefield Management System (BMS) and similar other applications.

SM Group Granted Defense License by Govt. of India
1st April, 2008: S M Group has been granted the Defence License for “Manufacture of Personal, Vehicle, Helicopter and Aircraft Armor” by Ministry of Defense, Govt. of India. This is a testimonial of the exceptional core-competence of the SM Group and a fitting recognition of its R & D capabilities and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilies. We are now approved as manufacturers for 1,50,000 vests per annum plus 25,000 Sq. Mtr. protection area for Vehicle Armouring and 25,000 Sq. Mtr. protection area for Helicopter/Aircraft Armouring.

An Approved Offset Partner
With the grant of defense license, the S M Group is now an “eligible and preferred” offset partner for all Defence Contracts. Foreign companies who are awarded defence (Army, Navy or Air Force) Contracts above Rs. 300 Cr can use products and services of SM Group for meeting their 30% offset obligations. The off-set commitments can be met by the foreign companies by directly sourcing items/systems required to service the same contract or any other contract across the defense forces or for supply to even other international market(s).

SM Group at Defexpo08
S M Group showcased its defence related products and services at Defexpo'08 held from 16th to 19th February, 2008 in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The main display comprised of combustible cartridge cases for tank and artillery munitions, personal/aircraft/vehicle armor and software for C4I2 requirements.

The Expo concluded successfully with the group companies signing agreements with some major customers/ partners.

Defexpo India is an International Land and Naval Systems Exhibition held biannually in New Delhi. It is one of the few internationally recognised defence exhibitions in the world. It provides a platform to involve Indian Industry and foreign defence manufacturers to establish technological tie-ups and joint ventures.

SM Group appointed area partner
S M Macario, the software division of S M Group has teamed up with Systematic, UK to provide tactical software solutions in India.

Systematic Software Engineering A/S, a Danish company, provides mission critical systems for the defence and healthcare sectors. It has specialist expertise in command and control systems for the military (C4I2) and electronic patient records for hospitals. It is a CMMI level 5 software and systems company with global headquarters at London, UK. Its solutions are used by tens of thousands of people in the defence (e.g. NATO armies including UK and USA), healthcare, manufacturing and service industries.

The companies are together participating in an RFI issued by the Indian Army for development of a Battlefield Management System. As per industry sources, the proposed project is valued at $40 Billion.

Additionally, the two companies will work together on a lot of emerging technologies in the development & operationalization of C4I2 system in the area relating to armed forces & paramilitary forces.
